Men’s Fashion: Milan Spring ’11

June 23rd, 2010 -

Summer color this year is hot, and I’m not just talking about your tan. The best wears are bright: acqua, pistachio, hot pink, mango, almond, weird how most cool colors are now foods. Cop some fresh gear to stand out, and then pair it with butterfly glasses for ladies – here comes the androgynous note – so basically men can be cool if they wear lighter, more feminine glasses, and colors, and women, well, this post isn’t for you (but basically the same stuff applies for the above and all that follows).

The gladiator sandal is in this summer, so wear it whatever way you can. Same goes for jeggings, a.k.a. really tight jeans that look like leggings. Chains are cool, draped around your neck, or over your body in another way. One word of caution: don’t throw all of it together – this applies to men and women – no matter how sexy you are, or think you are, you can’t pull off a chain necklace, an acqua shirt, jeggings, butterfly glasses, and gladiator glasses. If you try, people will think you hopped stops on a time travel expedition.

Suits are In This Spring

April 8th, 2010 -

Suits have long been a staple in men’s fashion. But today, the suit is becoming more affordable and more universal – not just a wear for the office. Today’s suits combine synthetic fabrics to achieve a technologically adherent look for a slim price.

There are also more traditional fabrics that are getting a makeover in the suit category. Plaid, linen and wool are all trendy materials that are being worn among the chic circles of young men around the country.

This trend toward classic sartorial styles is continuing abroad too. In Seoul, South Korea, looking dapper is commonplace. Among the trenchcoats, sweater vests, blazers and lightweight jackets are more cosmopolitan chic styles.  Men here wear suits as if they were t-shirts.

But while the weather’s heating up, you may not want to go so formal. For those who feel casual most of the time, another growing trend is wearing a necktie or bowtie with jeans, work boots and crumpled button down. Pierrepoint Hicks is becoming especially well known for his multi-colored bowties.

Cheap suits are not what they once were; today the cheap suit is a fashion staple for most men. Want a cheap suit? Try Macy’s, Uniqlo, and Topman.
